Memorial Day is quickly approaching. As hundreds of families gather around pools, splash pads and backyard barbecues, it’s important to recognize that safety is a priority for everyone. It just so happens that May is National Water Safety Month and we’ve come up with 5 tips to keep you safe this holiday weekend!
Learn to swim at any age. You never know when it will come in handy and it’s also a great form of exercise!
Always swim in designated areas and make sure children are supervised. If young swimmers aren’t confident enough to swim on their own, make sure they wear lifejackets or floaties for safety.
Don’t go swimming if you’re feeling sick. Also, remind children not to ingest water and take regular restroom breaks. In addition to these tips, always have a first aid kit on hand when you’re at a pool!
When the summer sun is out and about, it’s important to stay hydrated. Stock up on water and sports drinks and try to avoid sugary beverages.
It’s imperative to take care of the skin you’re in. Apply your sunscreen a half hour before going out into the sun for maximum protection. Reapply it every two hours as it wears thin!
